Germanic Gilded Iron Helmet Cheek Piece
An ancient Germanic iron and bronze cheek piece from a helmet; the outer surface with a gilded scale pattern.
Migration Period, Northern Europe. Ca. 6th - 7th century AD. Height: 5 3/4 in. (14.6 cm). Intact. Very rare.
A complete helmet with identical cheek pieces was found outside of Krefeld, Germany in 1962. The archaeological context established a date for the helmet type of the 6th to 7th century AD.
