Egyptian Faience Isis Nursing Horus

An ancient Egyptian light green faience amulet of Isis enthroned nursing the infant Harpokrates. The goddess sits on a high-backed throne and wears a long close fitting dress, and a solar disk crown with cows horns.

Saite Period, XXVIth Dynasty,
Ca. 664-525 BC.
Height: 1 7/8 in. (4.3 cm).

Isis was the wife of Osiris, protector and patron of women, and model of conjugal love. She is often depicted suckling the infant Harpokrates. Later regarded as a healer, she became associated with Demeter, Aphrodite, and Hathor.
