Egyptian Faience Fish Amulet

An ancient Egyptian green faience fish amulet.

Late Period, ca. 700-30 BC
Length: 1 5/8 in. (3.8 cm).
Intact

Fish made up a large part of the Egyptian diet and were regarded as sacred to a number of gods. Tilapia had a particular symbolism attached to it and was thought to gaurentee new life.
