Canaanite Basalt Gate Lock
An ancient Bronze Age Canaanite basalt massive gate lock mechanism consisting of a stone with a quadrangular channel through which the stone bolt slides. Bronze rods placed through two holes in both the bolt and the channel locked the bolt in place. Tel Lachish, Israel. Ca. 2nd millennium BC. Length: 12 1/4 in. (31.2 cm). Formerly in a New York institutional collection, purportedly found at Tel Lachish, Israel.
