A Pre-Columbian Mezcala black stone figure standing with hands at his side. His broad shoulder, rounded posterior and short squat legs evoke a feeling of power.

Western Mexico, Guerrero.
Ca. 200 BC - 500 AD.
Height: 3 1/2 in. (8.7 cm.)

The Mezcala culture is the name given to a Mesoamerican culture from Guerrero state of southwestern Mexico. The culture developed during the Middle and Late Preclassic periods continued into the Classic period.
Unlike other areas of Western Mexico, the Mezcala culture shows signs of influence from Central Mexico.
