Laureate bust of Vespasian right.
Reverse: COS VII
Eagle spreading wings on altar.

Rome mint, ca. 69-79 AD.

Vespasian was born in Falacrina, he rose to command during the invasion of Britain in 43 AD. After a bleak period as a mule dealer, he was appointed by Nero to quell the Jewish Revolt, which he did. He was proclaimed emperor in Alexandria, defeated Vitellius at Cremona, and died in Reate.
