Attic Greek Red-Figure Lekythos
An ancient Attic Greek red-figure lekythos with an image of youthful nude Eros seated on a rock, his wings raised and hands hands outstretched as if holding something. Athens, Attica. Ca. 470-440 BC. Height: 5 1/2 in. (14 cm). The lekythos was used to hold olive oil in antiquity and was often left as a grave offering. Formerly in the collection of Maria Sessa, inherited from her father Edward Sessa, acquired in the 1970s.
