Ca. 500 - 463 BC.

The island of Thasos drew great wealth in antiquity from gold mines. The Satyr and Nymph represent an expression of erotic fantasy in a form considered to be inappropriate for mortal Greeks. This coin type represents a transitional period between simple archaic imagery and later classical style.

Le Rider, Thasiennes 5; HGC 6, 331.
