Egyptian Alabaster Cylindrical Vessel

Early Dynastic Period,
Ca. 2920 - 2770 BC.
Height: 25 1/2 in. (64.8 cm).

Alabaster was prized by the ancient Egyptians for its translucence and decorative veining, qualities which were further emphasized in the carving process. The shape of this vase is paralleled by ceramic vessels of the same period commonly used for tomb offerings.
