Egyptian Terracotta Head of Harpokrates
An ancient Greco-Egyptian terracotta head of Harpokrates. The child god wears a crown over a broad rolled fillet. Alexandria, Egypt. Ca. 3rd - 1st century BC. Height: 2 1/4 in. (5.5 cm). Harpokrates, the infant son of Isis and Horus was a symbol of youth and fertility. He was essentially a patron deity of childhood, especially popular in the Late Period. Formerly in an Edinburgh, Scotland private collection.
