Roman Terra Sigillata Vase Fragment
An ancient Roman terra sigillata vase fragment decorated with a band of ovolo and elaborate scrolls. Below lies a register with two tondi: one with a cupid and one with a seated figure holding a vessel in between which is an elaborate decorative motif. The medallions are flanked by more decorations which are surmounted by recumbent deer. Central Gaul. Ca. 1st - 3rd century AD. Length: 6 7/8 in. (17.4 cm). Formerly in an Edinburgh, Scotland private collection.
