An ancient Neo-Assyrian chalcedony cylinder seal with a scene of a standing short-kilted hero grasping the horns of two ibexes with potted plants in the field and a crescent and star in the sky. Ca. 750 - 600 BC. Height: 1 7/8 in. (3 cm). Intact. Published: B. Teissier, Ancient Near Eastern Seals from the Marcopoli Collection, (Los Angeles, 1984), pp. 182-183, no. 285. Formerly in the Marcopoli collection, assembled in Aleppo, Syria, in the late 19th century; subsequently, McLendon collection, Dallas, acquired circa 1978; The McLendon Collection of Cylinder and Stamp Seals; Antiquities, Christie's, New York, June 14, 1993, lot 126; subsequently in the Dr. Vallo Benjamin collection (1934-2021).
