Neo-Assyrian Chalcedony Cylinder Seal

An ancient Neo-Assyrian brown chalcedony cylinder seal engraved with a bearded hero wearing a quiver and armed with a scimitar holding the horns of a rearing bull; a rhombus, a stylus, and a marru in the field, an ankh, star and crescent in the sky.

Ca. 750 - 600 BC.
Height: 1 3/8 in. (3.3 cm).
Formerly in the Marcopoli collection, assembled in Aleppo, Syria, in the late 19th century; subsequently, McLendon collection, Dallas, acquired circa 1978; The McLendon Collection of Cylinder and Stamp Seals; Antiquities, Christie's, New York, June 14, 1993, lot 127; subsequently in the Dr. Vallo Benjamin collection (1934-2021).
