Alexander The Great
Silver tetradrachm, 25 mm, 16.47 gm. Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lionskin. Rev: ALEXANDROU BASILEWS, Zeus seated holding eagle and scepter, A and grasshopper in the field. Ca. 336-323 BC. Alexander III, the son of Philip II, was born at Pella on 20 July, 356 BC. He was tutored by Aristotle. In 334 BC at the age of 23 he invaded Persia, by 330 he defeated Darius III and sacked Persepolis. He continued on to India, returning to Babylon in 323, he died on June 10 at the age of 33.
