A finely made ancient Egyptian faience statuette of Isis enthroned, nursing the infant Horus (Harpokrates).

Late Period, ca. 700-30 BC.
Height: 2 1/4 in. (5.8 cm).

Isis was the wife of Osiris, protector and patron of women, model of conjugal love. She is often depicted suckling the infant Harpokrates. Later regarded as a healer, she became associated with Demeter, Aphrodite, and Hathor.

Formerly in a New York private collection.
