An ancient Egyptian brown stone amulet depicting a reclining ram on an integral base.

Third Intermediate or Late Dynastic Period,
Ca. 700-100 BC.
Length: 20 mm.
Intact, looped for suspension.

The ram was most often associated with the god Khnum, who created mankind from clay on the potter's wheel, and was thought to oversee the rising and falling waters of the Nile.

Formerly in a New York private collection.
