An ancient Egyptian faience amulet of a rearing cobra or uraeus.

Late Period, XXVIth to XXXth Dynasty, ca. 644-332 BC.
Height: 12 mm.
Intact, no repairs.
Pierced for suspension.

The uraeus was a symbol of kingly power and divine protection. The earliest uraeus amulets date to the First Intermediate Period. The cobra was also identified with the snake god Nehebkau.
