Attic Greek Black-Figure Lekythos
An ancient Athenian black-figure lekythos of slender form decorated with a pair of large apotropaic eyes, between is a helmeted hoplite bearing shield and spear, an eagle flies above.
The lekythos was used to hold olive oil in antiquity and was often left as a grave offering.
Deaccessioned from the Newark Museum of Art, New Jersey, (inv. no. X00.107), gifted to the museum in the mid-20th century.
