Egyptian Faience Pataikos Amulet

An ancient Egyptian blue faience amulet of the bandy-legged dwarf god Pataikos, with purple details, a purple scarab on the head and a loop on the back for suspension.

Late Period, ca. 700 - 30 BC.
Height: 2 1/2 in. (6.4 cm).

Pataikos or Ptah the dwarf, was generally depicted as a broad-headed, bandy legged, youthful, sometimes janiform, dwarf. He was the protector of children.

Formerly in a New York private collection.
