Egyptian Faience Amulet of Isis
An ancient Egyptian blue faience amulet of the goddess Isis, standing wearing a sheath dress with arms to the sides and wearing a hieroglyph representing the throne of Egypt as her headdress. 3rd Intermediate Period, 1069-656 BC. Height: 1 1/2 in. (4 cm). Isis was the wife of Osiris, protector and patron of women, and model of conjugal love. She is often depicted suckling the infant Harpokrates. Later regarded as a healer, she became associated with Demeter, Aphrodite, and Hathor. Her principle cult temple site was the island of Philae. cf.: C.
