Bronze hemilitron, 15 mm, 4.11 gm. Obv. Head of Arethusa left, hair in a stephane, dolphin behind. Rev. SURA within four spoke wheel, dolphins in lower quarters. Second Democracy, struck ca. 405 BC. Syracuse was founded in 734 BC. For a time it was the most powerful Greek city anywhere, often clashing with Carthage for control of Sicily.
