An ancient Egyptian sandstone bas relief depicting a hippopotamus calf with mouth agape.

New Kingdom,
Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC.
Height: 8 1/4 in. (20.5 cm).

This is an extremely rare depiction.

Formerly in the collection of Bernard V. Bothmer (d. 1993), a noted authority on ancient Egyptian art who was a professor at New York University and a department chairman at the Brooklyn Museum.
