Silver drachm, 10 mm, 1.00 gm. Obverse: Honeybee; dotted border. Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square. Ca. 500-420 BC. Ephesos, a city in Ionian Anatolia, was famed for the Temple of Artemis (ca. 550 BC), one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The bee, date palm and stag were all sacred to the virgin goddess, Artemis.
